The Tuscawilla Sculpture Stroll Celebration will be taking place this Saturday, March 15th from 1-4pm, in Tuscawilla Park (300-899 NE Sanchez Ave, Ocala). The event is meant to highlight the various sculptures that have been installed around the park, and open them up for public judging and competition.
“It’s a celebration of the sculptures and public art in our community green spaces,” Melissa Townsend, the Community Cultural Arts Manager stated, “This is the community’s opportunity to have a voice and tell us what their favorite sculpture is.”
The event will feature free, family friendly art activities, live entertainment, food and beverage vendors, and the opportunity for visitors to meet many of the sculptures whose work is featured on the grounds. This includes special guest John Henry, a 2014 Merit Award Juror and internationally known sculptor. Focused on providing a hands-on arts experience for all, the Sculpture Stroll is offering an instrument petting zoo (a chance for kids to experiment with various musical instruments), a photo booth, face painting, and a “wishing tree”, which will be a collaborative work of art from all participants at the stroll.
Visitors to the stroll are invited to vote for their favorite sculpture from 1-3pm at the white gazebo in the park, with the results and awards being announced at 3:30pm. Guests will also be able to visit stations hosted by community groups such as the Ocala Storytelling Festival, Insomniac Theater, Marion Cultural Alliance, Fine Arts for Ocala, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, the Ocala Camera Club, the Appleton Museum of Art, the Discovery Center, and more. Centered around all things cultural and artistic in Ocala, the Sculpture Stroll is meant to help revive Tuscawilla Park and the creative spark in the community.
